How to Eat Clean!

How To Convert Your Pantry To Clean Eating

by THE GRACIOUS PANTRY
Clean Eating Pantry
I thought this would be a great article to share, from The Gracious Pantry. Many of you might be asking "What is Clean Eating?" and "How do you do it?" Well.. Here it is! :)
One of the problems I had when I started eating clean was my incredibly, junk-food-filled pantry. There was just nothing I didn’t have in there! From candy bars, to white rice and pasta, I had it! Far from the modeling “diet” I followed in my teens.
Now I admit, I didn’t go through and toss everything so I could start from scratch in one day. Switching my pantry contents to 100% clean foods was a challenge, and I just didn’t have the money to start from scratch all at once. So what did I do?
Every week, I chose one food to replace. Out went the candy bars and in came the protein bars. In a few months, my pantry was…. perfect!
So what clean foods should you buy to replace what’s in your pantry now?
Whole What?
Whole Wheat Pastry Flour is easily substituted in most recipes calling for white flour. It’s cheapest to purchase it in bulk at your local health food store. (You’ll need to find another alternative if you are gluten sensitive). As far as I know, this is the finest “grind” of whole wheat flour you can buy.
Beans, beans the magical fruit. The more you eat the more you…
Whether you like them canned or cooked from scratch at home, be sure you have plenty of these on hand in a broad variety. They are nutrition powerhouses and are very easy on the wallet. Just be sure to read labels if you are buying canned beans. Many will have added sugar. Avoid these. The sugar is not necessary or part of a clean eating lifestyle. Some beans to try:
  • Garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
  • Black beans
  • Kidney beans
  • Pinto beans
  • Adzuki beans
  • Navy beans
The Wonderful World of Grains
If you’ve only ever heard of wheat, oats and rice, you’re not alone. Many people don’t even realize the incredible list of healthy grains available to them. Long gone are the days when we had to make due with a few simple and well known grains. Today we have a veritable cornucopia of nutritious grains at our disposal. Here are just a few to get you started:
  • Quinoa
  • Brown Rice
  • Barley
  • Millet
  • Farro
  • Amaranth
  • Buckwheat
  • Kamut
  • Oats – Steel cut is best
* I wanted to add to this*  When Choosing meats....

  • Look for lean cuts. Certain cuts of meat and poultry are lower in fat. Lean cuts of beef include round, chuck, sirloin and tenderloin. Lean pork or lamb includes tenderloin, loin chops and leg. The leanest poultry is white meat from the breast with no skin.
  • Check percentages. When buying ground beef, look for packages with the highest percentage of lean meat — 90 percent or higher.
  • Watch the ground. Ground poultry can have as much fat as ground beef has, or more, because it often includes dark meat and skin. To make the leanest choice, choose ground breast meat, or look for low-fat ground chicken or turkey.
  • Be selective. Choose beef that is labeled "Choice" or "Select" instead of "Prime," which usually has more fat. If you can't resist the higher fat choices, use them as an occasional indulgence rather than a regular option.
The Protein Channel?
No, TVP is not the latest cable channel. The letters stand for Textured Vegetable Protein. It’s a soy product that acts much like ground meat in a recipe. It comes in bulk or in packages at most health food stores. It’s a really nice change in your diet, even if you’re not vegetarian. Foods to use TVP in:
  • Chili
  • Tacos
  • Burritos
  • Casseroles
  • Stews
  • Soups
Moooooove Over Dairy!
If you are sensitive to dairy like I am, you have some fantastic alternatives available to you!
  • Soy milk (Unsweetened)
  • Almond milk (Unsweetened)
  • Rice milk (Unsweetened)
  • Hemp milk (Unsweetened)
  • Hazelnut milk (Unsweetened)
Maybe The Squirrels Have It Right!
Nuts are wondrous little doo-dads and are a great addition to your eating plan in small amounts. The nutrients found in nuts are unequaled, and they really add a flavorful punch to anything you add them to. Some nuts to get you started are:
  • Almonds – nothing added.
  • Hazelnuts
  • Walnuts
  • Pecans
Do You Have A Sweet Tooth?
There are actually quite a few sweeteners allowed on a clean eating plan. In moderation, you can enjoy some sweet treats on a semi-regular basis!
  • Agave
  • Honey
  • Rapadura
  • Maple syrup
  • Brown rice syrup
  • Stevia
Extras - Some extras you should always have on hand are:
  • Chia Seeds
  • Flax Seed Meal
  • Oat bran
  • Wheat germ
  • Bee pollen
So there you have it. It’s by no means a complete list, but it’s a place to start. When you go grocery shopping, just add fresh fruits and veggies to this list and you’ll be well on your way to better health!

Clean Eating Pumpkin Spice Latte

I <3 fall!

Clean Eating Pumpkin Spice Latte
UPDATED NOTE: If using a coffee maker, be sure you use the type that requires the paper coffee filters. The spices will clog your machine if you have the other type that does not use these filters.
Clean Eating Pumpkin Spice Latte
(Makes 2 lattes)

Ingredients
4 tbsp. ground coffee (decaf, if you want to be really clean!)
1 tbsp. pumpkin spice (no sugar added, just the spice mix)
2-1/2 cups water
2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk OR…
2 cups regular milk + 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tbsp. pure maple syrup
Directions
NOTE: I made this using a French press. So it was easy to get these specific measurements. If you use a coffee maker, you’ll need to adjust the amounts of all the ingredients based on the amount of coffee you use. You can double or triple or….
Step 1 – Combine the coffee and the pumpkin spice and brew as usual with the specified amount of water.
Step 2 – Pour the maple syrup in the bottom of your cup and pour half of the hot coffee over that.
Step 3 – Add 1 cup of milk and stir.
Step 4 – Repeat steps 2-3 for the second serving.
Sip and Enjoy!

Ensure your grill has been scraped clean and is quite hot before you place the burgers on it. This prevents the meat from sticking and falling apart.

"You'll never get your body back after having a baby!!!"

DON'T believe that LIE!!! That's all it is...a lie. With hard work, consistency, and the right tools you CAN and WILL get your sexy back... or maybe even better than before!

This first picture is not easy for me to share and post for everyone to see, but I want to show my before, during, and after pregnancy and P90X.

You may think it's not even bad, but for me and how I felt about myself, it was. Everyone one of us have our own insecurities. Not feeling great about my body was one of mine.  I had NO muscle tone, legs and booty FULL of Cellulite, and No stamina.

Two weeks before I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy!

About 9 months after having my son and day 50 of P90X!

Day 62 of P90X and Shakeology and my first set of ABS!!!! I NEVER thought I could have a tummy like this!

It wasn't easy being disciplined. It wasn't easy making the choice to press play, everyday. It wasn't easy saying no to things I shouldn't eat. BUT it was a choice I am PROUD of.  I MADE the commitment to CHANGE. A whole new diet and routine. A new lifestyle for me and my growing little family. It's important to me to make a healthy and happy life for my child and future children, so that they don't become an unhealthy statistic.

SO don't fall into that misconception of being stuck with a body you're not happy with. GET UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! The time is NOW. "One day" or "tomorrow" will never come, until YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN!

DECIDE. COMMIT. SUCCEED.

Let me help YOU make your CHANGE!!!

Chocolate Shakeology No- bake COOKIES!

If you don’t know what a no-bake cookie is, it's basically chocolate, peanut butter and oatmeal mixed up.  You lump it all together with some sugar, milk and butter and then you throw it on a cookie sheet, stick it in the fridge to cool and there you go.
So here is the MUCH healthier GUILT -FREE version!
 Recipe:
1 cup of natural peanut or almond butter
3/4 cup of quick-cook oatmeal
1/3 cup of agave nectar or all natural honey
1 cup of chocolate Shakeology powder

1 tsp of sea salt * optional
Mix in a bowl with your hands, shape into cookies and refrigerate!  You can also change up the flavor by rolling them in unsweetened coconut ,whole grain graham-cracker crumbs, or chopped nuts! *I prefer mine made with all natural salted chunky Peanut Butter *

ENJOY...with OUT the guilt! ;)

Update!

SO as you can see I am NOT an avid blogger..... to say the least.

Summer FLEW by! In June we moved from Dunedin, Florida to The Bay Area in California! Hubby got orders to MSST San Francisco. ( he is a Coastie ) 2,757 miles back to the Golden Coast. This makes me a happy girl. Only a 6 hour drive to family, rather than a day long trip of congested flights. Happy Happy :)

Last month my little cowboy turned ONE! I can hardly believe it. It's hard to remember life before him. That sounds ridiculous to say, but it is so true. I'm sure most parents can relate. They become your world the minute you meet. I have never been so in love. He is my pride, my joy, and my heart. I Love you Corbin James!

We finished off our summer with big family birthday bash for Corbin! Here are some of my favorite pics :)

Our family trip to the city!!!

Corbin's big birthday bash!

Some of Corbin's Toy Story birthday cupcakes! Made by my mama, Sharmae, Bianca, and I :)
